Salt Lake Temple Open House
After years of renovations, the public will get a chance to see inside the Salt Lake Temple during the public open house April-October 2027. This is an amazing and rare opportunity to appreciate the temple inside before rededication.
The Salt Lake Temple covered in scaffolding (May 2023)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announced the public open house after renovations scheduled for completion in late 2026. Once a temple is dedicated, non-members are not permitted to enter the temple itself (though the public is always invited to visit the surrounding grounds).
Groundbreaking for the Salt Lake Temple, the largest temple in the faith, took place in 1853 under Brigham Young. It was completed 40 years later. The only other public open house in its history was 5 April 1893, before it was dedicated later that month.
The Church ofJesus Christ Temples website has more information on the Salt Lake Temple, including temple history, building facts, and renovation news. Though it is not an official Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints website, this website is a well-constructed labor of love and a great source for information about the world’s temples.
Temple Square
The surrounding Temple Square has remained open through the renovations. Every Sunday, the globally acclaimed Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) performs live in the choir hall before an audience for worldwide broadcast. Regardless of religious or spiritual practice, their performances are extraordinary and should be a priority stop in Salt Lake City.
Style Guide
Though commonly referred to as the Mormons, per their official style guide, use of this term is discouraged. Annie All Around will refer to this style guide for all Church of Jesus Christ content.
Religion as Culture
Annie All Around does not endorse one religion or spiritual path over another. However, as travelers, appreciating religion as culture broadens our understanding of the world and connects us with others without obligation to join.
Church members are very friendly and welcoming. Make sure to follow all rules as established by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when on their property.
