The Grind
This sign welcomes you to The Grind in Morgantown, WV
I love local coffeehouses, and college towns have the best ones. The Grind in Morgantown, West Virginia, home of West Virginia University (WVU), meets that level of expectation. It is a must-stop when I am in the area.
Though my uncle recently moved away from West Virginia, he lived there for several years; along with the proximity to the Pittsburgh area, where I spend a lot of time, this means I am in Morgantown with some frequency. I have a Grind loyalty card (though it can be a challenge to make sure I have it in my purse amongst the activity of packing).
The Grind does an excellent job on my Drink of Judgment, which is a hazelnut latte on ice. They have the typical and seasonal coffee offerings both hot and iced, but they also serve breakfast and lunch.

I have not had the lunch food yet because the egg sandwiches are so good I must have one each time I stop. These are fresh and made to order; I prefer mine with egg, spinach, roasted red peppers, tomato, and cheese.

The Book Exchange next door is a WVU gift shop and bookstore; even if you are not a WVU alum or fan, there are some neat books, gifts, and souvenirs, and it’s worth a look.
I have stayed in downtown Morgantown during the summer, and it is very quiet. Even though WVU does have summer classes, the People Mover and other WVU amenities are shut down for the summer. Be aware that summer hours change, so confirm before you go.
Once school is in session, downtown Morgantown is hopping. There are paid parking lots nearby, and I recommend parking there. In the summer, the parking is easier.
Driving through most of Morgantown isn’t too bad, but some parts can be very rugged with limited vision, so enjoy the mountain air, but drive with caution and care.
